McMurtry Automotive: Faster cell evaluation

McMurtry Automotive used The Voltt and validated cell models to evaluate the transition from the Molicel P45B to P50B during early pack concept development.

Side by side modelling enabled rapid comparison of electrical and thermal behaviour, avoiding lengthy physical test campaigns. This approach reduced cell evaluation time by seven months, allowing the team to lock in cell selection and pack assumptions earlier while lowering technical risk and accelerating vehicle development.

Manufacturer Background

CustomCells

CustomCells is a German developer of application-specific lithium-ion pouch cells

CustomCells was founded in 2012 as a spin-off from the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicon Technology and operates from sites in Itzehoe and Tübingen. It designs and produces application-specific lithium-ion pouch cells in small and medium series, tailoring electrode formulation, format and performance envelope to individual customer programmes. Its high-energy cells use silicon-rich anodes to reach energy densities well above mainstream automotive cells, and have been developed for electric aviation, maritime and defence platforms. The model codes encode cell family and format, with the CC-HE prefix denoting the high-energy range. CustomCells occupies the space between research prototypes and mass production, supplying qualified cells at volumes the large manufacturers will not serve.
